Jewellery
Three types of jewellery have been found in Skara Brae. These are necklaces, hair pins and pendants. Most of the jewellery was made out of bone. Some of the jewellery was decorated and were carved into different shapes. It is widely believed that wearing this jewellery was a sign of high status and was probably mostly worn by the men of the household. This source shows the the three types of jewellery worn in Skara Brae. These pieces of jewellery were made out of bone. They were used for fashion purposes and to show high status in the community. This tells us that the citizens in Skara Brae were skilled enough to make jewellery and cared about how they looked.
bone Pots
Small pots made from shell, whale bone and stones were found in Skara Brae. Some of these pots contained a natural colouring called ochre believed to have been used to make body art for rituals and celebrations. This source is a picture of an ancient pot found in Skara Brae. It is made out of the backbone of a whale or dolphin. This source was used to make body art out of ochre for rituals and celebrations. This tells us us that they may have used ochre and other natural colourings to cover themselves for art and rituals.
what i learned about art
I learned that art is not just paintings and drawings but it is also about making jewellery, pottery and other very useful objects we use in our everyday life.
